Seven Branch Prayer
with Lama Tharchin Rinpoche
December 3, 2007|
Open Secret Bookstore, San Rafael, CA
7pm

Here is a little explanation from Rinpoche:

"As buddhists, our goal is to attain the state of fully enlightened buddhahood. In order to do that, we need to know the difference between sentient beings and buddha. While sentient beings have temporary obscurations and defilements, buddhas do not. As sentient beings, we are obscured by two types of defilement: gross afflictive emotion and subtle habit that obscures our inherent wisdom. In order to attain buddhahood, then, we have to purify these temporary defilements. That is what the path of buddhism is for - providing techniques to purify defilements through the two accumulations of merit and wisdom. Through these two accumulations, we gain the result of the two kayas (bodies of enlightenment). For one's own purpose, we attain the dharmakaya, ultimate body of enlightenment. For the purpose of others, we attain the rupakaya, form body of enlightenment. The point of both of the kayas is to benefit all sentient beings. It is through the techniques of the path of Dharma that we gain that power. The best technique for the two accumulations is the Seven Branch Offering Prayer. Basically, it teaches us how to become a Buddha."
