You are invited to join Lama Tharchin Rinpoche, Lama Sonam Rinpoche, guest lamas and sangha friends for our 20th annual Summer Retreat at Pema Osel Ling from July 3 to 27, 2008.
Summer Retreat is a chance for me to see my whole Dharma family together in the same mandala. I highly recommend you to join this retreat so that we can have a most joyful Dharma party. My wish is for everyone to do longer retreat but asking you to come at least one month every year is a very reasonable request! Now we are all living – in the future, who knows? So please take this opportunity now while we are still alive. It’s good for you and it’s good for me, it’s good for the whole family to come together. This kind of goodness will last forever and not just for this one life. Lama Tharchin Rinpoche
This summer we have a new and wonderful opportunity to increase our familiarity with the Dudjom Tersar Three Roots (lama, yidam and dakini) practices, stability in which brings immeasurable benefit and blessings. Both beginners and advanced practitioners are welcome. You may attend all or as much of retreat as your schedule allows, with the exception of Drupchen where we do ask that you attend the whole retreat.
We feel particularly honored that Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche will come August 19-21 and bestow not only the Seven Treasures, Thröma Nakmo and Dorje Drolo empowerments (retreat practices that we will do this summer) but also additional Dudjom Three Roots empowerments. See more information.
Shitro Ngagso
Thursday, July 3
A One-hundred Peaceful and Wrathful deities’ (Shi-tro) practice, with self-empowerment, which restores vows and samayas (tantric words of honor).
Collection of Seven Great Treasures Guru Rinpoche Drupchen
Friday, July 4 to Saturday, July 12
Drupchen (“Great Accomplishment”) is an intensive group practice that focuses on a central deity. In the “Seven Treasures: The Mind Accomplishment of the Lama” the deity is Guru Rinpoche. We perform this beautiful Guru Yoga practice day and night with chanting, sacred dance and meditation. It carries powerful blessings.
This text was requested of H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche by the great Wisdom Dakini Yeshe Tsogyal in a vision. She told Dudjom Rinpoche that it was time to compose a specific text that gathered six previous treasures together and to add his own to it. As Lama Tharchin Rinpoche said, “Thanks to the kindness of Yeshe Tsogyal all the blessing and the power of all seven lineages have been gathered within this single very holy, important and vital practice.”
New! Lama Tharchin Rinpoche has agreed to bestow the Collection of Seven Great Treasures empowerment on July 4, the first day of Drupchen. To take this empowerment it is of course best, says Rinpoche, to do the entire retreat and, failing that, to do as many days of this retreat as one can. Otherwise one can take this empowerment but needs to stay for the entire day on July 4th .
See the Drupchen schedule below. We will start at 9:00 am on July 4th and are expecting to go through to 5:30 pm. The cost for taking the empowerment is $75 per person and includes meals. Please email theemail the office if you are interested in attending.

Sacred Tibetan Lama Dances
Saturday, July 12
Drupchen culminates in an afternoon of sacred dance. To view these rarely performed dances is a great blessing. This event is open to the public and will start at 1:30 - everyone is welcome.
Thröma Nakmo
Monday, July 14 to Sunday, July 20
Wrathful Black Dakini Thröma Nakmo practice carries tremendous healing power and the ability to accumulate merit and wisdom in a vast and rapid way.
Thröma Nakmo is the most profound of Dudjom Lingpa's treasures from the Cho Nyid Namkha Long Dzod. It contains the complete path of the Vajrayana, from Ngöndro (the preliminary practices) all the way through the Dzogchen (Great Perfection) practices of trekchöd and thögal. Through the practice of T'hröma Nakmo, at least thirteen of Dudjom Lingpa's disciples attained rainbow body (the dissolution of the body's elements into light); one thousand achieved the level of awareness holder and countless others achieved the goal of enlightenment through this practice.
You are welcome to join us for all or part of this retreat.
Dorje Drolo: Tuesday, July 22 to Sunday, July 27
Among the treasures of His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche, this is the most essential and profound practice. Dorje Drolo is the innermost secret and wrathful form of Guru Rinpoche. This sadhana was revealed as a mind treasure to His Holiness at the Tiger’s Nest Cave in Bhutan. He practiced it in secret for thirty years and then passed it to a single disciple. This lineage of Dorje Drolo is fresh and pure and particularly appropriate for these degenerate times. As long as there is dualistic view; anger, desire and ignorance manifest outwardly in forms of demonic energy, creating obstacles to our practice and realization. This practice is a powerful method for overcoming confusion and demonic influence.
You are welcome to join us for all or part of this retreat.
