Magical Display of the Arts
“Tibetan sacred art is the symbolic expression of the teachings and practice of Buddhism. The symbolic quality of outer form can help to reveal the inner enlightened quality of our minds. Just being in their presence can heal mental and emotional suffering and bring lasting peace.”
Lama Tharchin Rinpoche
Begun in the early 1990’s, the arts group at Pema Osel Ling was created by the late Dzogchen and Tibetan ritual master Lama Tharchin Rinpoche, and in 1997 formally named The Magical Display of the Arts. The Magical Display of the Arts is currently home to Tibetan and Western artists, musicians, dancers, sculptors and ritual artists of the Dudjom Tersar lineage, at Pema Osel Ling Retreat Center.
Our mission is to preserve and sustain the Tibetan sacred ritual arts of music, dance, painting, and sculpture, and to expand appreciation for their relevance in communicating traditional Tibetan values of loving kindness, compassion and altruistic motivation.
Over the years, we have created an outstanding collection of monumental sacred art works at Pema Osel Ling Retreat Center, including a 29-foot Guru Rinpoche statue; 13 stupas, the tallest of which is 30 feet; four ornate snow lion thrones; and a 6-foot square sand mandala that serves as the base of the shrine. Additional art pieces include elaborate costumes and dance masks, whose designs accord with the instructions from Lama Tharchin Rinpoche's lineage teachers.
Our projects document, preserve and disseminate sacred ritual art. The sacred art on display at Pema Osel Ling and those available through Dharma Treasures are a living artistic representation of the deities found in Tibetan Vajrayana tantric practices. We call it "living art" because the master (teacher) to student (apprentice) lineage remains unbroken since the 8th century. The artistic forms are the outer-most representations of deeper meditation, and its intended insights into the true nature of phenomena.
We are creating and archiving videos, photographs, costumes and masks, dances, sculptures, stupas and treasure vases. Our web and social media pages are dedicated to traditional Tibetan Arts, featuring video clips and still photographs, and in the future, the sale of art-related objects.
It is urgent that we document the authentic traditional art forms, which carry the wisdom of the Tibetan culture. Please consider supporting The Magical Display of the Arts at Vajrayana Foundation through donations, grants and purchases of our sacred art products.
